Frequently Asked Questions

I would love for you to have a pleasant experience with me, so I've answered the questions I get most often below. Please take a moment to read them.

What are your hours?

Hawt Haircuts is open generally from noon – 8 pm, Tuesday – Saturday.

Do I need an appointment?

No. I will accommodate walk-ins, but I may be busy with a client. I will always have a time of my next availability posted on the door. If I am with a client, and it’s the shoulder rub part of the appointment, then it’s quiet time, so please do not burst in loudly. I WILL have a note posted on the door. I recommend you call for an appointment to avoid waiting.

How do I make an appointment?

You can call me at 910-320-4494 to request an appointment and avoid a possible wait, or you can request an appointment online. If I am busy, please call again. If you walk in and I am busy with a client you may leave a note on the door.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you can’t make it for your appointment, please call or text 910-320-4494. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE MY TIME BY SCHEDULING AND NOT SHOWING UP. If you do not show up and do not notify me, you may be given a mullet next time you come in.

How much of an advanced notice do you need for an appointment?

Same-day appointments are fine. Just let me know when you’d like to come in.

What are your rates?

Please go to the Services Page to see what I offer and what the rates are.

What forms of payment do you accept.

I am just setting up to open, and am not able to accept credit cards at this time. Cash only.

Do you do ethnic (black) hair?

I'm sorry, but I am not experienced with cutting ethnic hair so I am not able to accommodate that.

How much hair cutting experience do you have?

Short answer: 13 years. I started beauty school out in California when I was 16 in 1982. I earned my California cosmetology license in 1983. I did hair for about 8 years, then the guy I married joined the Marine Corps, and we moved around so much that I stayed home with the kids. But I’m not married anymore, and I’ve been doing hair again for the last 5 years.

Do you do haircuts out of your home?

No. Absolutely not. I work in a salon. I would need a permit and lots of other state-regulated hoops to jump through, and I’m not about to do that.

Do you ever go to a client’s home?

No. That also would be against the law. Doing any beauty services at a client’s home is only permissible by the state if the client is disabled, or in a nursing home.

Is haircuts all you do?

I was thinking of offering manicures, so let me know if you’d be interested in that. Maybe you are not aware, but women pay attention to what a man’s hands look like and a few get turned on if they look nice. So it’s a good thing to have them well-groomed. I also will be taking some cosmetology – to – barbering classes, so soon I may be doing straight-razor shaves. As of now, though, I’m not licensed to shave.
